Reigning AHSAA state champions Thompson (7A), Clay-Chalkville (6A) and Piedmont (3A) were all unanimous No. 1 choices in Alabama Sports Writers Association Preseason Top 10 poll released this morning.
There were new No. 1s in Classes 1A, 2A, 4A and 5A.
In Class 5A, reigning champ Pike Road moved to 6A. The Patriots, under new coach Ed Rigby, are ranked No. 6 in their new class. Perennial title threat UMS-Wright starts the season at No. 1 in 5A. Veteran coach Terry Curtis is looking for his ninth state title at the school.
