PIKE ROAD — Pike Road’s home opener had all the ingredients: a packed house, a fast start, and another big night from two-way star Jordan Holmes. What it didn’t have was the finishing kick, as 7A Enterprise scored the final 14 points to win 24–17 on Friday, Aug. 29. The Patriots led 17–10 at halftime behind a Holmes rushing score, a long strike to O’Mari Smith, and Connor Hall’s field goal, but the Wildcats controlled the second half with a steady ground game.
Pike Road’s defense flew around again—Braylon Outlaw piled up stops while Rufus Boone, Miles Khatri and Jhaylon Smith combined for three sacks—but Enterprise quarterback Mason Burkhardt churned out just enough tough yards and finished with two rushing touchdowns to tilt it. Smith flashed as a vertical threat for the Patriots, hauling in a 68-yard score from sophomore QB Gunner Gibbs and topping 80 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Pike Road (1–1) showed plenty of Week-2 promise: explosive plays on offense, special-teams points, and a defense that created negative plays and two interceptions. The Patriots return to region play next against Rehobeth on Friday, Sept. 5.
